Skin Boosters Explained: Why Everyone in Korea Is Getting Rejuran

If you follow Korean skincare at all, you’ve heard of Rejuran. It’s the most iconic injectable treatment in Korean dermatology — the treatment that Korean dermatologists themselves get regularly, the one celebrities credit for their effortless glow, and one of the top reasons skincare enthusiasts travel to Seoul.

But “skin booster” is a broad term that gets applied to very different products with very different mechanisms. Understanding what Rejuran actually does — and how it differs from other skin boosters like Juvelook and Revive — helps you know what to expect and which might be right for your skin.

What Is Rejuran?

Rejuran Healer is an injectable treatment made from polynucleotides (PN) — long chains of nucleotides extracted from salmon DNA. Before the salmon part makes you pause, understand that polynucleotides are biocompatible molecules that have been used in medicine for decades. The science behind their use in skin rejuvenation is well-established.

When injected into the dermis, polynucleotides stimulate your skin’s own fibroblast cells to increase collagen production, improve hydration retention, and accelerate tissue repair processes. Think of it as providing your skin cells with the molecular building blocks they need to repair and regenerate themselves more effectively.

Most injectable treatments work through a specific mechanism: fillers physically fill space, Botox freezes muscles, lasers create controlled damage. Rejuran works differently — it supports your skin’s inherent ability to heal and renew. The result isn’t dramatic or immediately visible like a filler injection. It’s more like your skin gradually becoming healthier, more hydrated, more elastic, and more resilient over the weeks following treatment.

People describe the effect as looking “naturally better” — like they’ve been sleeping well, drinking more water, and living their healthiest life. It’s subtle, but unmistakable.

Korean dermatologists rate Rejuran A-tier: a reliable, well-proven treatment that forms the foundation of skin quality protocols across Korean clinics. It’s the treatment that comes up when Korean dermatologists are asked what they’d recommend for their own family members’ skin health.

Why Rejuran Matters

It addresses the root cause, not symptoms. Most treatments target specific problems — a wrinkle here, a dark spot there. Rejuran improves your skin’s fundamental health and regenerative capacity. Healthier skin responds better to everything else, heals faster from procedures, and ages slower.

It’s nearly impossible to get outside Asia. Rejuran is available in South Korea, Singapore, and a handful of other Asian countries, but very difficult to find in the US or Europe. This makes it one of the most compelling reasons for skincare enthusiasts to visit Seoul — you simply can’t get this treatment at home.

It makes everything else work better. Rejuran works synergistically with virtually every other treatment. Korean dermatologists routinely include it as a standard complement to laser, lifting, and injectable protocols because it improves outcomes across the board. Getting Pico laser plus Rejuran produces better results than Pico alone — and the Rejuran helps your skin recover from the laser faster.

The Rejuran Family

Rejuran comes in several specialized variants, each formulated for different concerns:

Rejuran Healer — The original and most widely used formulation. For overall face rejuvenation, skin quality improvement, and general skin health. This is what most people mean when they say “Rejuran.”

Rejuran S — A thicker formulation with higher-viscosity polynucleotides specifically designed for acne scar treatment. The denser product stays in scar tissue longer, providing extended repair signaling.

Rejuran I — Formulated specifically for the delicate under-eye area. Addresses dark circles, fine lines, and thinning skin around the eyes without the puffiness that HA-based under-eye treatments sometimes cause.

Rejuran HB — A hybrid version combining polynucleotides with hyaluronic acid and lidocaine. The HA provides immediate hydration, the lidocaine addresses the original Rejuran’s main drawback (injection discomfort), and the polynucleotides provide the regenerative benefit. Korean dermatologists upgraded Rejuran HB to A-tier specifically because it solves the pain issue.

Many premium Korean clinics now deliver Rejuran using the DermaShine automated injector — a device that Korean dermatologists rank S-tier. DermaShine ensures more even product distribution across the treatment area and provides a significantly more comfortable experience than manual injection. If your clinic offers DermaShine delivery, it’s worth choosing.

How Rejuran Treatment Works

Consultation. Your dermatologist evaluates your skin’s hydration, elasticity, texture, and overall condition. They’ll recommend the specific Rejuran variant and treatment protocol for your needs.

Numbing. Topical numbing cream is applied for 20–30 minutes to minimize discomfort.

Injection (20–30 minutes). Rejuran is injected into the dermis using fine needles — either manually or with the DermaShine automated injector — in a grid pattern across the treatment area. The product is deposited in small drops throughout the dermis.

Immediately after. Small bumps (papules) at each injection point are normal. These are the Rejuran deposits sitting in the dermis. They flatten within 1–3 days. They’re not painful — just visually noticeable up close.

Results timeline. Initial improvement in hydration and texture within 1–2 weeks. Full results — improved elasticity, skin thickness, and overall quality — develop over 4–6 weeks as the polynucleotides stimulate fibroblast activity and collagen production.

For optimal results, a course of 3–4 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart is recommended. After the initial course, maintenance sessions every 3–6 months sustain the benefit. Many of our clients add a Rejuran session to whatever other treatment they’re getting during each Seoul visit.

Renera Tip: Rejuran is one of the treatments we most frequently recommend — not because it’s the most expensive option (it’s actually quite affordable at $300–$600 per session), but because it genuinely makes everything else work better. If you’re getting laser or lifting treatments during your Seoul visit, adding Rejuran to your appointment is one of the smartest investments you can make.

Rejuran vs. Other Skin Boosters

Rejuran vs. Juvelook

Juvelook, developed by Korean company Humedix, combines PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid) with hyaluronic acid. Unlike Rejuran which provides molecular building blocks, Juvelook stimulates collagen through a controlled foreign-body response to the PDLLA microspheres.

Rejuran Juvelook
Active ingredient Polynucleotides (salmon DNA) PDLLA + Hyaluronic Acid
Mechanism Provides building blocks for cell repair Stimulates collagen via controlled response
Primary effect Skin health, hydration, elasticity Texture, pores, fine lines, volume
Immediate effect Subtle hydration More noticeable (from HA component)
Full results 4–6 weeks 2–3 months
Duration 3–6 months per session 12–18 months
Best for Overall skin quality, healing, regeneration Texture refinement, pore improvement, mild volume
Price per session (Seoul) $300–$600 $500–$1,100

Juvelook Volume — the higher-concentration variant designed for structural volume restoration — has become especially popular at Korean clinics. Korean dermatologists rank it A-tier as the preferred alternative to traditional HA fillers when patients want natural-looking volume through their own collagen rather than injected gel.

The key difference: Rejuran makes your skin fundamentally healthier. Juvelook makes your skin structurally stronger. They work through entirely different mechanisms and complement each other beautifully — many Korean protocols include both.

Rejuran vs. Revive

Revive (also known as Belotero Revive) contains hyaluronic acid plus glycerol. It’s specifically formulated for deep, lasting hydration — and Korean dermatologists have upgraded it to S-tier for this specific capability.

Choose Rejuran if: Your primary goal is skin regeneration, healing support, and overall quality improvement. Rejuran is the better choice for damaged, aging, or depleted skin that needs cellular-level repair.

Choose Revive if: Your primary concern is chronic dehydration — skin that always feels dry and tight regardless of what products you use. Revive’s glycerol component creates a sustained moisture reservoir in the dermis that lasts 6–9 months, far longer than any other hydration treatment.

Choose both if: You want comprehensive skin quality improvement. Rejuran for repair and regeneration, Revive for lasting hydration. They address different aspects of skin health and work well together.

Rejuran vs. PDRN

Both come from salmon DNA, but they’re different molecules with different mechanisms.

Rejuran uses polynucleotides (PN) — larger, longer-chain DNA molecules that stimulate fibroblast activity and collagen production broadly. Think of it as the “builder.”

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide) uses smaller DNA fragments that work through a specific receptor pathway (the A2A purinergic receptor). Its effects are more targeted — anti-inflammatory, pro-healing, and regenerative. Think of it as the “healer.”

Korean dermatologists frequently use both in complementary protocols — Rejuran for broad skin rejuvenation during regular maintenance visits, PDRN as a post-procedure recovery treatment after laser or RF treatments. The combination addresses skin health from two different biological angles.

Renera Tip: If this is your first time in Seoul and you’re choosing one skin booster, we usually recommend starting with Rejuran Healer. It’s the most versatile, the most uniquely Korean, and the hardest to find outside Asia. Your dermatologist may suggest adding or substituting Juvelook or Revive based on what they see in your skin analysis — trust their recommendation.
